MID CONFERENCE EXCURSION
A mid conference excursion will be held on 22nd November
2006 in Nyanga Kentale, Rakai district, 55 km from Masaka
town. Rakai district, in general, has an undulating
topography, which is vulnerable to soil erosion. There are
mainly four broad land-use types [pastures/ rangelands,
banana, coffee, and annuals], all sited at various
landscapes.
About six years ago, a group of farmers working with
research scientists established soil and water conservation
technologies in the four land-use types. It will be
interesting to view the outcomes of the efforts in terms of
improved soil physical, chemical, biological and
productivity aspects.
Please don't miss out to see the hills where participants
will be able to observe the contrast between grass-covered
hills where soil and water conservation technologies were
established and the bare hills where there were no
interventions. .
More details on the
tour will be given to you during the conference.
FARMER’S SESSION
There will be a farmers’ session where farmers participating
will share their knowledge and experiences, and dialogue on
the opportunities and challenges.
